He's That Subliminal Kid, the DJ/producer who travels the world adding nothing but class and intelligence to dance floors, writing books and lecturing. Sure, wearing '90s hats, but otherwise living a life we can all be jealous about.

In 2007, Spooky (aka Mr Paul D Miller) spent a month in Antarctica making a film and recording the sounds of the ice. Perhaps he had been pondering the soul song they spoke of in Happy Feet. Perhaps it was about 'getting people to think about the planet itself as a document that is always changing'. Perhaps he wanted out of the East Village.

Whatever. He ventured southward with a waterproof microphone and the results are amazing. Field recordings of the resonant frequencies of crystalline ice. A large-scale multimedia performance brings us Spooky's first-person encounter with the harsh, dynamic landscape. (So, what did you do last summer? Yeh, you. With the nice hat.)

Win:
We have a DJ Spooky book to give away! It's an academic text published by MIT called Sound Unbound. To enter, email win@threethousand.com.au with the subject line 'I would welcome a secondhand encounter with the harsh, dynamic landscape'.
