These San Diegans (that just doesn't sound right) have something to their sound that makes it instantly recognisable. Maybe the harmonica, maybe the effects on the vocals and guitar, maybe the country rock folk feel to it... or maybe it's just the equation that bands have been using forever to make themselves familiar; and the Delta Spirit stumbled onto the secret recipe.

Formed from the ashes of Noise Ratchet, this quintet has been around since 2004, but just released their debut, Ode to Sunshine. Filling out the third supporting slot on a bill with the Cold War Kids and Dr. Dog a few years ago; they brought the classic rock hooks, a haze of sound between themselves and the crowd, singing that makes your own lungs feel like bursting open, and a loose, jangling, rock 'n' roll attitude. All of which come across on this live introduction to the Delta Spirit. We should all thank Rounder records for reissuing this self-released album, otherwise we would probably never have the chance to hear it.
