Faker, baker, candlestick maker. There is a lot to be said for rhyming and even more to be said for timing. Having received airplay over the years from triple j and releasing two previous EP's, Addicted Romantic is the well-timed first album from the Sydney five-piece Faker. Influenced by The Smiths, The Cure, The Pixies and Echo and the Bunnymen, singer/songwriter Nathan Hudson fuses dark emotive subjects with a dash cunning indie-pop sensibility. It is the manic without the depressive, the lithium in your gin and although being polished there remains an undiluted passion behind the album, being both charmingly urgent and genuine. While not being completely flawless Addicted Romantic is consistent, it has flair and it is fun. It provides the basis for what could be a very interesting few months for the band. The album is out through EMI on June 12th, they play the corner hotel with Bit By Bats and The Vandas Friday June 17.
