Melbourne is a funny place. It's either really hot or pissing down rain, a sandwich sets you back upwards of $12 and there are more pop-up shops than permanent ones. On the upside, there are loads of bike lanes, insanely good coffee and a major exhibition by Ricky Swallow at the freakin' National Gallery.
Ricky is our man at the top of the art world, whose work reflects an affinity with the natural order of things as well as a fascination with pop culture, all with an unapologetic emphasis on style and craftsmanship. So when the NGV shop announced the release of this limited edition tote, all we could do was forward each other the link along with the words‚ 'Oh mannn!'
Deftly constructed by tote connoisseurs Chip Chop on heavy duty unbleached canvas, this no-nonsense bag is tastefully adorned with a reproduction of Mr.Swallow's iconic gesture of skeletal solidarity, Tusk. Like the beautiful cloth-bound Bricoleur catalogue, you get the feeling Ricky himself had a hand in the design of this particular piece, raising it above the bar of mere mortal merch. There are only 50 of these bad boys in existence, so it's a case of the quick and the dead if you want these arms hanging from your arm.
