Let's face it. Even a monkey could snap something pretty with Polaroid. Its nostalgic feel, its play of light, its instant development; Polaroid is one of the last standing, accessible, relics of photography past. Sadly, all good things must come to an end. 2008 is Polaroid's last year. This may not be surprising in our era of ever-advancing digital photography, but it still sure is sad.

Polaroid devotees from near and far have united under SaveThePolaroid.com to rally for the continued manufacture of Polaroid film. The site is loaded with images sent in by fans, celebrating the unique qualities of the cameras. Meanwhile, you better hurry to get your hands on Polaroid film - manufacture stops at the end of the year. Cameras can still be bought new (for a little while), or picked up second-hand from many op-shops and eBay sellers - just make sure they still work.

With tips abounding on how to best cherish and preserve remaining film, and pressure mounting on other film companies to take over manufacture, fingers crossed that we won't have to say goodbye to the Polaroid just yet. Parting is such sweet sorrow.
