Newtown SC has branched into horticulture. Long the home of an impressive pot plant collection, Newtown has opened a tiny shop within their café called Greentown, selling potted succulents.
Let's get one thing clear: succulents aren't the same thing as cactuses. Cactuses are a subset of the succulent family, in a Venn-diagram type arrangement. And where cactuses tend to scream "I don't own any crockery and I sure as hell don't have a garden but I'm TRYING people, TRYING!!" these succulents chirp , "I'm a stylish water saver!"
Each wee plant is potted in a unique retro vessel: like a ceramic egg shell, a goblet or a porcelain swan. Actually two of my favourite pots are on their front counter, but apparently they're not for sale.
They like sun but not much water - wouldn't want to drown the suckers. Bonsai for a water-restricted city?
