Well it's true about Windsor, there is a bar or bar/cafe opening on every corner round here, but that doesn't mean they're all good. Once upon a time there was a pub called 'Duke of Windsor', long before the cheap pizza armies invaded. It has been sadly missed, but there is new blood. Nestled next to Alter Design (a.k.a. Dan Cut Copy's work away from music) and across from the Melbourne Lawn Bowls Club (a.k.a. place where young people go to get trashed amongst manicured foliage) is Tyranny of Distance.
This cafe and bar is an old lube garage. That's right, lube. No, car lube. Anyway, it's impressive; the attention to detail is excellent. Raw metal beams, rusted old gas bottles, cane furniture, concrete floors, vibrant, almost mexican colours, and nu-rock art neatly placed in the entrance. Niiice. Wine and food menu is tight yo! And it's 70% outdoor, so people who puff on stuff will be chuffed. Check it out, five metres down Union Street off Chapel.
