Dictionary.com states that Babylon is either a place of great luxury, sensuality, vice and corruption or a place of captivity and exile. This seems to suggest that Babylon/Bebélon is what you make of it, both in the spelling and the meaning. Yet, Rue Bebélon on Little Lonsdale definitely fits the first definition. Admittedly, the flowers on the bar are no Hanging Gardens but Rue Bebélon is a perfect example of the no frills bar/café culture that Melburnians revel in. As somewhat of an institution and inner city local it has managed to maintain its cool through its unpretentious nature. Rue Bebélon is the next best thing to having a bar in your loungeroom and is the ideal place to wind down up or to wind down in winter, somewhere to replace cold-blood with warm wine.
