The best things in Melbourne are often the hardest to find; the perfect 'Costanza' parking spot, a good pair of jeans, or in this instance, a good value lunch in the city.
Pushka is the latest phoenix to rise from the ashes of one of our dead-end laneways, and what makes breakfast/coffee/lunch at Pushka memorable is the charming detail of the place. Superbly made coffees are accessorised by an assortment of fabulously kitsch teaspoons, individually salvaged from decades of neglect. Bagels or baguettes are made fresh with tried and tested fillings such as prosciutto, rocket and cream cheese or chicken, celery and mayo and may be followed by an array of indulgent cakes and slices. But ultimately, in a rare stroke of genius, for the signature dish, you can't beat the boiled egg and soldiers. Stay tuned for a liquor license!
