Mmm... Tangerines are delicious. We don't really have them here in Oz, so naming a film night after the little orange wannabes is probably the next best thing. On the lonely first Tuesday of every month, five short films are shown in little lonely East St Kilda at a neat little bar with plenty of beer.

Whoa, OK. Breathe, people, breathe! We can almost hear the collective wheezing of Melbourne's gaming nerd fraternity as their excitement forces a quick inhalation of asthma pumps everywhere. Over 125 playable games in the one place! Seriously, when else will you ever be at a party where Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Mario, Sonic, Alex the Kid and even the Frog from Frogger will be attending? Add to this a collection of sweet consoles and arcade machines and you'll be forced into a pixel-induced coma.
Being a photographer at gigs and festivals is sweet. When you get free booze, an important-looking swing tag and access to ogle band members you're in bogan-free heaven. But really, none of the cool shenanigans happen backstage when rockstar X is having his nails manicured. Leah Robertson has braved the plebs, foregone the perks and documented every moment in her upcoming exhibition aptly titled General Admission.
The urban plains of concrete don't need to be trimmed, prepped or fit for royalty. You do have to make your own mallet, but you save on stable fees. Bicycle Polo is the big thing in NY and Vancouver, especially Vancouver, and now it is here. Or, to be specific, it's in Rathdowne Street and behind the Northcote Social Club.
INT: Ernie Dingo picks up an idle Viewmaster. Clicking through the slides of his past, he reaches an epiphany about his life hitherto and is suddenly returned to a childhood lost from the decay of age.
EXT: Upon hearing Dingo's clichéd realisations, hundreds of Viewmasters rise from their toy-chest graves and plot their own form of cultural revenge.
Isn’t genre a stupid word? Say it over and over and soon it begins to sound like the name of a particularly sleazy French uncle. We here at ThreeThousand are fed-up with this concept. That’s why we’re so pleased to meet Ian, the creator, owner and general music genius at the Listening Lounge.
Many zines throughout history have been lowbrow. That was their whole shtick really. But sometimes haphazard photocopying and an overload of cut and paste can be enough to cause a Xerox-type headache. Jiffy, however, represents a new era of beautifully-crafted zines. Edited by Simon Blight and Rowan Tedge, this work of art (in a limited-to-100 run) features not only some very fine Australian illustrators and photographers but also a selection of talented artists emerging from woodwork all over the world.
