What:
Retail Fireworks final show (for a while)
Where:
The Empress, 714 Nicholson St, North Fitzroy
When:
TONIGHT! Thurs Aug 13, doors 8pm
How much:
$7
Description:
At Retails Fireworks' last gig I woke up with the following note in my phone: "Never bring girlfriend to see gig, loud noises. I've fallen in love with a band." Dramatic, sure. Nonsensical, yes, but wholly accurate. Retail shows are a fluid jam, mingling guitars and beats, and the occasional held vocal drone.
Event: Bands
Event: Supper
What:
C Grade monthly
Where:
Mercat Basement, 456 Queen St, Melbourne
When:
Sat July 18, doors 10pm
How much:
$5 from 10-11pm, $10 from 11-12pm, $15 after midnight
Description:
A man died in the C Grade toilets when Daft Punk played their secret show, only moments after Sophie explained what a Rusty Trombone was to Bangalter, well that's her story anyhow. To be honest, it's probably true. C Grade is back every month complete with Agwa bubbles, lazers, Lewie Day, Otologic, smoke machines, Bongmist and the opportunity to forge your own fantasy.
Event: Party
Stimulus: Chaos
Patrick O'Neil is loose and always has been. So it's not hard to imagine that, when the chain-smoking arts student from Melbourne was unleashed on the world with little more than a fedora and a fanciful ambition to become a writer, some strange and wonderful things happened; baleful encounters in Amsterdam alleys, acid trips in the Sahara desert, stand-offs with Jamaican gangsters.
Kitsune Maison 7 is a 19-track aural orgy - there's pleasure, a few gags, but plenty to get jiggy with. Like the six instalments before it, this compilation has several stand-out pieces, namely ‘Make it reverse' (Men) and the sultry vocals of ‘Favourite Things' (The Golden Filter). ‘This sweet love' (James Yuill) is great too but clearly the odd one out in the orgy - the one regretting throwing the keys to his Nissan Micra in the ceramic bowl.

Description:
Electro-pop, for the most part, bites; then there's Bertie. Originally folk-inspired, now with a grittier and more mature rock sound, Bertie is a short-haired seductress. Her incredible track, ‘thump', has inventive lyrics and a vocal range that's sometimes relaxing, other times rather heated.

Interviews aren't always as simple as picking up the phone, dialling Spain and talking with a beautiful - and evidently not single - French pop star just after she has woken up. After five minutes of technology making me perspire from every one of my very Australian pores, I finally had the chance to talk with Julie Budet, otherwise known as Yelle.
