This record is a jigsaw. A Rubick's cube. As soon as you enter this musical labyrinth you're lost in the shadows. Caught up in a running stream of repeating refrains and echoing hooks as the record circles in on itself like a snake eating its own tail (Dear, infinity symbol).
But really, who wants to keep tabs on the real world when such an escape is on offer.
This new record from one of New Zealand's most riotous acts has a definite whiff of maturation about it. Once upon a time, you see, these Dunedin boys (that's deep, deep south people - think Nom*D and Flying Nun Records) would fling brawling one and half-minute noise bombs in a relatively scattershot fashion.

Atlanta, Georgia might be famous to most as the southern fried incubator of hip hop innovators Outkast, but that’s all about to change.
The newest and dirtiest stars to come out swinging from this talent lodestone, Black Lips, have certainly been skulking around the underground for ages. The irrepressible convention stranglers Damn Arms have long been rubbing shoulders with the highest echelon of post-punk-new-wave glitterati like Test Icicles (RIP), Klaxons and Forward Russia. And so they should. Ever since the Melbourne foursome rose from the ashes of the defunct act Snap! Crakk! their dedication to an upwards slanting musical trajectory has been relentless.
We all know how starved Northcote has been of a decent bar proper, the Darebinshire crew have long craved a good stool to call home, that ain't of the pub variety.
Thank the high heavens then for these adept new cobblers. With a name that draws to mind Hoxton, London's similarly hip Dream Bags, Jaguar Shoes, thisclass lodestone (located next to the iconic Pizza Mein Leibe) has charm and talent to boot.
